Josh Rubenstein's Weather Forecast (Aug. 20)
STUDIO CITY (KCAL9) — Well it's been a busy morning to the south and to the east. The upper level low pressure center that slowly traveled down the coast overnight is positioned over Southern California.
There was a wave of energy stretching from San Diego County into Riverside and San Bernardino County Wednesday morning. This was producing numerous thunderstorms and some heavy downpours.
The low will sit here for most of the day and some of that thunderstorm activity could sneak into the LA Basin, but it looks like the Inland Empire, inland Orange County, Riverside County, mountain communities and the high desert have a good shot at some isolated t-storms.
The San Diego NWS office issued a flash flood watch for mountains and deserts in Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
The storm cells seem to be moving through pretty quickly, which reduces flooding potential; however, if a series of cells "trains" over a particular community there could be some flooding this afternoon.
The marine layer over the basin should break up Wednesday for hazy sunshine and then build in again Wednesday night. The low moves out Thursday, and the weather should settle down by the weekend.
