Police shoot suspect accused of stabbing a woman outside an Irvine home
Officers shot and killed a man while he stabbed his mother to death outside their Irvine home.
The Irvine Police Department closed off a neighborhood after the shooting, which happened at about 2:50 p.m. near Green Tree Lane and Coral Tree Lane, near UC Irvine.
"When the officers arrived, they saw the male actively attacking the female, and they believe she was being stabbed by the suspect," Irvine PD spokesperson Kyle Oldoerp said. "Very tragic for our community. We're committed to finding out why this happened."
Neighbor David King said the victim's son had a history of problems.
"My understanding is there's a history of mental illness with the son," he said. "He's been in and out of prison, kind of just moved back home. Apparently, there was some disturbance between the two and he was chasing her with a knife."
Investigators could not confirm the events leading up to the deadly stabbing. They canvassed the neighborhood for any security video that captured the incident.
"I can't get it out of my head, and every time I talk, I'm shaking," neighbor Marco Rodriguez said.
Police identified the suspect as 37-year-old Paul Parvea Montazer from Las Vegas. They identified the mother as 72-year-old Parvin Montazer of Irvine.
While unrelated, this is the second stabbing-turned-police shooting in Irvine this week.
