Investigators To Interview Survivors, Meet With Owners In Fatal Orland Bus Crash
EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — Federal investigators Monday shifted their investigation of last week's deadly bus crash in Orland to Los Angeles, officials said.
Investigators planned to interview witnesses and survivors and meet the owners of the bus involved in Thursday's fiery crash that killed ten people, including five Southland students who were on their way to visit Humbolt State University.
Investigators also planned to look into emergency protocols for buses, including how many students were wearing seatbelts and whether they knew of escape routes.
On Sunday, NTSB members said they had not found physical evidence confirming a witness' claim that the FedEx truck was on fire before it slammed into the bus.
The crash killed the following students:
- Denise Gomez and Ismael Jimenez, Animo Charter High School in Inglewood
- Jennifer Bonilla, Dorsey High School
- Adrian Castro, El Monte High School
- Marisa Serrato, Norte Vista High School
Bus driver Talalelei Lealao-Taiao, FedEx driver Tim Evans, and chaperones Arthur Arzola, Mattison Haywood and Michael Myvett were also killed.
LA City Councilman Joe Buscaino and Sharefest have launched the "Humbolt Bus Crash Victims Assistance Fund" to support LAUSD families affected by the crash.
Donations can be made online, or by check, made payable to Sharefest with "Humboldt Bus Crash Victims Assistance Fund" in the memo line.
