12-year-old boy killed, teenage girl wounded in drive-by shooting in Long Beach

A 12-year-old boy has died from his injuries after being shot in Long Beach late Tuesday night. His father confirmed the news Wednesday morning.

Police said the shooting occurred near Lewis Avenue and Hill Street around 11:32 p.m. When officers arrived to the scene they found three victims, a 12-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the upper body, a 14-year-old girl with a gunshot would to the lower body, and a 13-year-old girl who was uninjured.

Both victims were taken to the hospital where 12-year-old, Eric Gregory Brown III of Long Beach, died from his injuries. The 14-year-old is expected to survive with non-life threatening injuries.

A silver Honda with several bullet holes was discovered at the scene.

The investigation revealed that the three juveniles were walking on the sidewalk when they were approached by a vehicle with multiple male suspects inside. Police said it's unknown how many of the suspects shot at them.

"The shooting that took place last night is absolutely devastating. A young boy's life has been cut short due to an intolerable act of gun violence", said Chief Wally Hebeish. "While we mourn this loss as a community, our officers will not stop working to locate and arrest those responsible for this tragedy."
