Investigation underway after skeletal remains found near property in Loma Linda

An investigation is underway in San Bernardino County after skeletal remains were discovered on Sunday. 

Investigators with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to a property in the 11400 block of San Timoteo Road in Loma Linda at around 11:30 a.m. after the remains were found, according to a statement from the department.

The bones were found early Sunday morning when Steve Davis was looking for kindling to build a fire at his friend's home, instead, he stumbled across what appeared to be a human leg bone.

"When I pulled the branches back there was a bone in there," Davis said. "I got this sinking sensation in my stomach cause the way it looked."

Pat Schulte owns the property where the bones were found and says was just as shocked to learn of the discovery. 

"How did it get there?" Schulte asked. "That's kinda the mystery."

Investigators rushed to the scene and scoured the property, where they determined that the bones were indeed those of a human. 

"The identity and age of the remains has not been determined," investigators said. 

Detectives bagged all of the evidence on Monday, which was found scattered around near the edge of the property. 

The remains are set to undergo examination and autopsy to identify the remains and the cause of death.

On Wednesday, investigators revealed that the bones were not human. 

"Upon further examination by the San Bernardino County Coroner's Office, the skeletal remains were determined to not be human," a press release said.
