Death of 3-year-old child in Lancaster ruled homicide

A 3-year-old in Lancaster died after he was found with a cut to his neck late Tuesday night. 

Authorities responded around 11 p.m. to the 43400 block of 57th Street West regarding a child who was bleeding and not breathing, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. 

Deputies said he sustained a laceration to his neck. Paramedics from the LA County Fire Department said the child had more abrasions and cuts on his chest when they took him to the hospital, where he later died. 

No details were given about how the boy got injured.

Paramedics also took 39-year-old Rena Naulls, the live-in boyfriend of the victim's mother, to the hospital after a suicide attempt. He's currently in stable condition and is a person of interest in this case. 

Detectives are investigating the child's death as a homicide.
