Inside SoCal: Basquiat (9/24)
Jean Michel Basquiat. You may know the name, the art, and the crown, but do you know the person?
In 2017, Basquiat's sisters, Lisane and Jeanine, had a vision: to share countless works by their brother that had never been seen before; works that told the story of his life, his inspirations, his childhood, all of the things that shape us. But it wasn't the right time. Turns out now is the time, and this exhibition, Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure, is one to behold.
Four different curated spaces take you on a journey through stages of his life, evoking smiles and laughter, pain and contemplation. His life in Los Angeles is on display as well - places Jean-Michel loved to go (Mr. Chow, Chateau Marmont), art painted in his Venice studio. Jean-Michel's life was over much too soon, but what is clear in this exhibit is that it was full of life, and full of art.
