Off-duty Inglewood officer shot, wounded in Lennox

Off-duty officer shot in Lennox still at-large

An off-duty Inglewood police officer was shot and wounded Thursday morning in the Lennox area.

The shooting occurred a little before 10:20 a.m. in the 10000 block of South Osage Avenue after the off-duty plainclothes officer got into some kind of confrontation, according to Inglewood Mayor James Butts.

The officer was struck at least twice in the arm and hip, Butts told CBSLA. He was taken by ambulance to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He is expected to survive. 

The gunman ran from the scene and remains at large. investigators know the identity of the shooter, Butts said. 

The circumstances that led up to the shooting were unclear.  The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
