Inglewood father charged with murder after his one-year-old was found dead in the LA River
Police on Monday arrested an Inglewood man for murder and child endangerment after his one-year-old daughter's body was recovered in the Los Angeles River in Long Beach.
Jayveyon Burley, 22, was behind bars Tuesday and being held in lieu of $215,000 bail. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and child endangerment.
Burley's mother called Inglewood police to report an at-risk missing person in the 300 block of North Market Street, stating that she was concerned about her granddaughter's whereabouts. Jayveyon, who lives with her, had gone to pick up his two children from Long Beach, but only had one child — his three-year-old son — with him when he returned.
He was arrested after officers located his daughter's remains in the Los Angeles River, just below the Ocean Boulevard Bridge in Long Beach.
Family members identified the girl as Leilani Dream Burley.
On Wednesday, Burley was charged with murder and assault on a child causing death. His arraignment has been scheduled for January 10.
