Illegal fireworks show wreaks havoc in Orange County

Illegal fireworks show damages food trucks, starts small fires in Santa Ana

An illegal fireworks show rained down debris onto businesses and sparked several small fires in Santa Ana last weekend.

"It looked like we were at Disneyland," said Adam Villa. "It was really dangerous because here at the commissary there are gas tanks, propane tanks. So, something could have caught on fire. I was really scared for the workers over here."

Villa witnessed the glimmering spectacle along West Central Avenue in Santa Ana, but the reverberations from the explosions thundrered throughout Orange County, prompting Irvine police to send out a message to assure their residents.

Debris rainded down in the Santa Ana industrial area, shattering the front windshield of Javier Castaneda's food truck, as well as four others.

"It's a good amount of money," said Castaneda. "Plus the food I had to throw away. It's wasteful."

When officers rushed to investigate the illegal fireworks show, everyone involved scattered and disappeared. Santa Ana police made no arrests.

Marks from the explosions scarred the street and trash still litters much of West Central Avenue.

"I recommend they don't do it again because it could hurt somebody," said Villa.
