Homicide Investigation Underway In Baldwin Park

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an adult female Saturday that was found in her Baldwin Park home.

The 61-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, deputies, who are calling the death suspicious, were sent around 1:48 p.m. to the 3700 block of Idaho Avenue. Deputies received a call from a neighbor, who says they saw a man coming out of the house on Saturday morning, carrying two bags, as well as some beer.

The woman was discovered in her bedroom.

"This was a tragedy for us all to find out what occurred today," Baldwin Park mayor Manuel Lozano said.

Lozana went on to say that the woman, who worked with kids, had been a loved member of the community, and that she had lived there for more than 30 years.

"She was a very nice person, touched a lot of individuals in our city, and was involved in the boy scouts," Lozano said. "So she was a very active and loved individual."

Neither the woman's identity nor the cause of her death has been released, but neighbors agree they are surprised by the incident.

"I never really thought something like this could happen in this neighborhood," neighbor Isabela Pescina said. "She was a nice person. She gave me a summer job. I would just help her around her house and clean her pool."

Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact deputies at (323) 890-5500.
