Homeowner Concerned For Neighborhood After His Cache Of Guns Is Stolen

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — It's not what any homeowner wants to see: thieves rummaging through their home. But for this burglary victim, it's what was taken that is more distressing than usual.

The Westchester homeowner says they got away with three handguns, and two hunting rifles.

He's now too scared to show his face on camera.

"It is very serious stuff, and I hope it doesn't go out there and it doesn't have repercussions in the neighborhood."

The theft happened at an unusual time at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The homeowner has four cameras, some of them are in plain sight but the thieves didn't seem to care.

It all started with one of the four men ringing the doorbell. When no one answered, he left and came back with some friends.

The homeowner believes they broke in through a side window and ransacked his place.

He says they probably felt they hit the lottery when they found the guns hidden in the closet. The guns are registered and legal. The man lives in the home with his wife and three kids.

"They're scared, the fact that somebody came into their own personal house and was shuffling through their stuff," he said of his family.

The homeowner says the burglars were inside for about five minutes before running out the front door with the guns, jewelry and more.

He hopes sharing the video will help police track down the thieves and the guns before it's too late.

"Hopefully we'll catch these guys and get them put away," he said.
