'Hidden Cash' Man Sparks Frenzy In Burbank With Second Day Of Money Drops
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An anonymous millionaire who has been hiding cash and giving hints on where to find it on Twitter drew hundreds to a Burbank shopping center Thursday in a hunt for envelopes stuffed with money.
The mystery man and real estate developer has been tweeting (@HiddenCash) clues to the locations of envelopes filled with $20 and $100 bills.
He started with leaving money all over the San Francisco Bay Area and hid his first stash in Los Angeles Wednesday night.
The second round of drops in L.A. came just after 7 p.m. Thursday, sparking a frenzy around the Burbank Empire Center, where a lucky few found the hidden envelopes.
Those who found the money were asked to tweet a photo and tag @HiddenCash, whose mystery operator told CBS2/KCAL9 his mission is to inspire others to pay it forward.
Fourteen-year-old Tatianna Ramirez told CBS2's Brittney Hopper she'll be doing just that after finding one envelope stuffed with $210 Thursday evening.
"I have no words. I just really want to say 'God Bless' to him because this is really helping my family," she said, adding that the money would help her ailing grandmother.
Hundreds of other hopefuls meanwhile swarmed bus stops as police made sure no one got out of control in the area. Another man took to Twitter, writing a brief thank you to the man behind the social media scavenger hunt.
The so-called "Mr. Hidden Cash" told CBS2 he has more drops planned in L.A. for Friday, and plans to remain in town through the weekend.
His Twitter account had meanwhile swelled to more than 300,000 followers as of Thursday evening - a week after the account was made.
