Hesperia Athlete Suffers Severe Head Injury

HESPERIA (CBSLA.com) — A Hesperia football player is being treated for a serious head injury after he was hurt during a game.

Bruce Henderson, 17, was playing for Sultana High School Friday night when he was injured. Reports vary about the cause of the injury, with some saying it was caused by a helmet-to-helmet collision. Other reports say Henderson was hurt when his head hit the ground.

Henderson, wearing jersey #29, was injured during the fourth quarter of a game against Norte Vista High School. There were only 52 seconds left on the clock.

Henderson was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton.

Some social media posts said Henderson opened his eyes and improved Monday, but a family friend told CBS2 News there's been no official word on Henderson's condition.

Members of the Sultan football team took a knee and prayed for their teammate during a practice session Monday.

Henderson's family has been by his side since he was hospitalized. The family plans to release more information about his condition Tuesday.
