Head-On Collision In Malibu Leaves 1 Hospitalized In Critical Condition
MALIBU (CBSLA.com) — Deputies Thursday investigated a head-on collision that briefly closed a portion of the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, a Honda Civic traveling eastbound crossed into oncoming traffic on the PCH around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and crashed head-on into another vehicle.
A preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the Honda who crossed over the double yellow lanes was being followed by a citizen who mistook him for a robber.
Further information revealed the suspect driver is possibly a courier who dropped luggage off at the citizen's home prior to the crash.
Paramedics transported the suspect driver to UCLA Medical Center for treatment of critical injuries. The suspect remains in surgery this morning.
The citizen was transported to Los Robles Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He has since been released.
Around 1:30 a.m., authorities closed both directions of the PCH at Latigo Canyon Road. Shortly after 5 a.m., the area was reopened to commuters.
Deputies remain on scene to determine why the driver crossed into oncoming traffic.
At this time, no arrests have been made.
