Hartman To Get Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame
HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — On Tuesday, the efforts of Phil Hartman's family to get the comedian and voice-over artist a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame will be rewarded.
From his spot-on impressions of President Clinton and numerous other personalities during his long run on "Saturday Night Live," to appearances in 52 episodes of "The Simpsons," Hartman was a popular television star of the 1980s and 1990s.
"It's a happiness to know that what I always knew everybody now acknowledges," his brother, John Hartmann, told CBS2's Brittney Hopper. "Phil was an incredibly gifted artist."
The family has been trying to get the honor for Hartman — who shortened his last name — ever since he was slain in 1998. Hartmann said it was difficult to get the honor for his brother because he was a bit of a mystery.
Cones and tape are set up on Hollywood Boulevard where Hartman's star will be unveiled Tuesday morning in front of one of his favorite places, the Hollywood Toys & Costume Shop.
"It's something that's permanent, it's dignified, it's something that is really of who he was," said Hartmann. "It's a really cool thing."
Hartmann said he looks forward to visiting the spot to remember his brother.
"And it's worthy, and it's deserved," he said. "I'll come down here all the time to know that I can talk to him here."
Tuesday's ceremony will take place on Hollywood Boulevard between Vine Street and Highland Avenue, and starts at 11:30 a.m.
