Hair Salons, Barbershops OK To Reopen In OC, Ventura, San Bernardino

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) - Counties across California including Ventura, Orange, and San Bernardino counties received state approval Tuesday to allow hair salons, barbershops, and other grooming stores to reopen, albeit under "serious modifications".

Los Angeles County wasn't among the 47 counties listed by Gov. Gavin Newsom as being eligible for reopening, but county supervisors indicated those restrictions will be lifted soon.

The announcement is the latest official move to relax stay-at-home orders issued in March intended to help prevent spread of COVID-19.

Customers and workers in barbershops and salons must wear face coverings during hair-cutting and other close-contact services, per California guidelines. Employees and customers will also be required to have their temperature checked.

Lori Galvez rushed into her Thousand Oaks salon Pacific Breeze as soon as she heard the news.

"Getting everything ready so everyone can be safe," she said. "It's gonna happen and we will get it done, but it's a little nerve-wracking."

Galvez said she hopes clients will be patient and only come in if they're healthy.

As of Tuesday, Ventura County reported 1,017 total cases and 32 deaths, an increase of 105 cases and two deaths since Friday; San Bernardino County reported 4,567 cases — an increase of 202 since Sunday — and 176 deaths, which has remained unchanged for the past four days; and Orange County reported 5,578 cases — an increase of 110 — since Monday and 131 deaths, which remained unchanged.
