Gridlock Expected As PCH Partially Shuts Down For Construction
SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — Malibu commuters will likely face some gridlock next week when Pacific Coast Highway undergoes construction in Santa Monica.
One line will be closed in each direction, beginning south of Entrada drive and extending to the Santa Monica Beach House, just north of the California Incline.
During morning rush hours, the center turn lane will be used for southbound traffic towards the Santa Monica Pier. That center lane will a third lane of northbound traffic towards Malibu during evening rush hours, and will be used for left turns into residential driveways at other hours, Malibu officials said Friday.
The City of LA is making a second attempt to build a sewer line that will divert polluted water runoff away from canyons leading to the Santa Monica Bay. The water will instead be transferred to the Hyperion Treatment Plant.
Two years ago, the city attempted to construct more than a mile of sewer pipe, ending 900 feet short of its goal.
The upcoming project may take as long as a year to complete but officials assured that closures won't last that long.
Commuters will also face some stressful road conditions when the PCH-Ocean Avenue connector goes under construction later this spring, and when the California Incline route closes for construction, between PCH and Santa Monica, later this year.
