Gelson's, Smart & Final Submit Bids To Purchase Haggen Stores

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A new Gelson's or Smart & Final could be coming to your neighborhood.
Both chains have submitted bids to purchase 36 of the soon-to-be shuttered Haggen stores.
Haggen took over numerous Albertsons and Vons stores earlier this year, but quickly ran into financial troubles.
The company announced plans in September to close their California locations.
Gelson's is hoping to purchase eight of the stores, including locations in Santa Monica, Thousand Oaks, Ladera Ranch, and Laguna Beach.
Smart & Final has offered to purchase 28 Haggen locations, 27 of which are in California. One is in Las Vegas.
The proposed sales are subject to approval by a bankruptcy court.
