Suspect Killed In Officer-Involved Shooting In Gardena

GARDENA (CBSLA) — Authorities say a suspect killed in an officer-involved shooting in Gardena had been wanted in a shooting.

Gardena police say the shooting happened in the 13200 block of Van Ness Avenue at around 2:30 p.m., after officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area of Van Ness and El Segundo Boulevard.

The suspect was shot at least once in the upper torso and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

No officers or civilians were injured during the incident.

Witnesses told police the man they saw running was involved in the initial shooting that prompted the call to police, but its not clear why the officers opened fire on him.

A firearm was located at the scene, sheriff's officials said, but sheriff's officials say investigators are not sure yet the suspect fired at the officers.
