Gang Homicide Investigation Underway In Santa Ana

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Detectives investigated Wednesday the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a 17-year-old man.

According to the Santa Ana Police Department, officers were sent around midnight to the 500 block of South Sullivan Street for reports of shots fired in the area.

Once on scene, witnesses explained to officers they heard about four to five shots fired.

Officers said they received a call from officials at Coastal Community Hospital who explained Angel Arellano, the 17-year-old victim, had arrived with multiple gunshot wounds.

Arellano was immediately transported to Western Medical in critical condition, where he later died.

According to the Orange County District Attorney's Office, Arellano was a documented Townsend Street gang member.

"The shooting occurred in the gang injunction safety zone," explained officers.

He was one of the individuals the district attorney's office sought to join the Townsend Street injunction. A pretrial hearing has been set for Jan. 13, 2015.

The Santa Ana Police Department is offering a monetary reward for information leading to the arrest of gang homicide or felony gang assault suspects.

Anyone with information is urged to call officers at (714) 245-8390.
