Former Pomona Teacher Sentenced For Having Sex With 13-Year-Old Student
POMONA (CBSLA.com) — A former middle school teacher convicted of having sex with a 13-year-old student has been sentenced to nearly 16 years in prison.
Steven Andrews, 43, taught the victim history for a year at Lorbeer Middle School in Pomona before he began the sexual relationship, according to Deputy District Attorney Lisa Coen.
Superior Court Judge Mike Camacho convicted Andrews on March 5 of six counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, five counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object, three counts of committing a lewd act on a child, two counts of oral copulation of a person under 16 and one count of possession or control of child pornography.
Some of the crimes took place at the school and then moved off campus.
Authorities were alerted to what was happening by another teacher.
Andrews was arrested Sept. 31, 2011, and has been jailed ever since.
The former teacher will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
