Five Mistreated Lions Given New Home In South Africa Sanctuary
(CBSLA.com) — Five lions abandoned in a defunct Romanian zoo faced imminent extermination until a local veterinarian called on an international animal rescue group to step in.
Four Paws sedated the lions and transported them, along with another lion from the Netherlands, to the Lionsrock in South Africa. More than 90 big cats rescued from all over the world now call the sanctuary home.
The group documented the journey on video and it's an incredible scene when these animals take in the African landscape for the first time.
Four Paws is an organization that helps animals who have been abused, whether it's been for entertainment, scientific or economic reasons.
Southern California is home to several exotic animal sanctuaries, including The Shambala Preserve in Acton and Lions Tigers & Bears near San Diego.
