First Bicycle Parking Facility Opens At Metro Station In El Monte
EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — City officials Monday announced the grand opening of the first secure bicycle parking facility in El Monte.
L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas joined officials from L.A. County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and members of the San Gabriel Valley Bicycle Community to reveal the $635,000 high-capacity facility at the El Monte station.
The Metro El Monte Bike Hub will provide services for bicycle commuters, including controlled entry under closed-circuit TV surveillance, folding bike rentals, same-day repairs, bike-related clinics and accessory sales.
The 1,100-square-foot facility is the first of five planned hubs that will add about 700 secure bicycle-parking spaces at stations countywide, Metro authorities explained.
According to city officials, the addition of hubs are a key strategy to make it easier for bicyclists to access the Metro system.
