Firefighters gaining upper hand on 1,300+ acre fire in Hesperia

Firefighters have contained a 1,330-acre wildfire that ignited in the Hesperia area of San Bernardino County over the weekend.

The fire was first reported after 6 p.m. Saturday in the 18000 block of N. Highway 173, according to Cal Fire San Bernardino firefighters. Fire crews managed to keep the fire from growing overnight, with no growth in acreage and was 30 % contained as of 7 a.m. Monday.

They made major progress throughout the day, however, and by 10:30 a.m. they reported that the blaze was fully contained.

An evacuation warning was ordered for the Lake Arrowhead Equestrian Estates neighborhood.

One structure was reportedly threatened during the early stages of the blaze, which grew to 500 acres just three hours after it was first reported.

"Crews will remain on scene strengthening control lines and mopping up hot spots," Cal Fire said on X. Road closures exist in the area of Highway 138 and Highway 173 and Arrowhead Lake Road.

The cause of the fire was being investigated. No injuries have yet been reported. More information on the fire is available on the CalFire website.
