2 shops destroyed by massive fire in Glendale

Two shops were destroyed on Sunday when a massive fire broke out in the Glendale area.

The fifth-alarm fire was reported at 11:26 a.m. in the area of Salem Street and San Fernando, according to the Verdugo Fire Department.

Since the fire was ignited, crews say that it has "extended significantly," engulfing a costume store and party rental shop.

One firefighter suffered a heat-related injury while battling the fire. They were since released from the hospital.

Firefighters say that both buildings were empty during the blaze and that no civilian injuries occurred.

They were able to stop the forward progress of the fire before it reached a nearby apartment building.

Some people were forced to evacuate due to the intensity of the flames.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

This is a breaking news story. More information will be added as soon as it becomes available.
