Firefighters battle flames erupting from Westlake apartment complex
The Los Angeles Fire Department is fighting a heavy blaze consuming an apartment complex in Westlake.
According to the department, the fire started just before 8:20 p.m. in the 1530 block of W. Cambria Street. The fire spread from a nearby tree to the attic of the complex. Flames could be seen protruding from the building's roof.
The department dispatched 74 firefighters to extinguish the flames in 45 minutes. While there were no injuries, about 37 people do not have a home tonight.
The Los Angeles Police Department announced they have detained a person of interest connected to the fire but did not specify the person's involvement.
