Fire Destroys Home In Highland Park

HIGHLAND PARK (CBSLA.com) — Crews are working to contain a structure fire that erupted within a home in Highland Park on Wednesday.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, crews were sent shortly after 4:30 a.m. to a two-story, single family home located in the 100 block of South Avenue 54 at North Figueroa Street.

Upon their arrival, firefighters located smoke and flames showing from the first floor of the home.

Eight occupants were located outside of the residence unharmed.

A preliminary investigation revealed the fire erupted on the first floor of the home and gradually moved up to the second floor and the attic.

Around 55 firefighters doused the roof of the home with water in an effort to contain the flames.

Paramedics treated a civilian and a firefighter for minor injuries.

According to officials, the home was built in the 1900s and is about 100-years-old.

The cause of the fire will be investigated.
