Fire Crews Battle Brush Fire In Gorman Area

GORMAN (CBSLA.com) — A brush fire pushed by light winds scorched about 60 acres in the far northwestern reaches of Los Angeles County Tuesday afternoon, but no structures were threatened and no injuries were reported.

The LA County Fire Department said shortly after 3 p.m. that the fire was 80 percent contained and that had forward progression of the fire had been stopped.

The fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. alongside the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway near Gorman Creek, according to the county Fire Department.

The blaze was initially reported at about five to 10 acres, but it moved quickly through dry medium brush, pushed by winds of less than 10 mph.

Three water-dropping helicopters were helping to fight the blaze, and county crews called for two fixed-wing aircraft to join the effort.

At least one lane of the northbound 5 Freeway was closed near state Route 138 while crews fought the fire.
