Crews put out fire at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks

Historic high school in Sherman Oaks goes up in flames

Firefighters battled a blaze at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks Thursday evening.

Crews responded to the 13645 block of West Riverside Drive near Woodman Avenue around 9:30 p.m. where they found flames coming from the second floor, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Firefighters said the blaze appeared to start on the roof during construction when tar caught on fire and quickly spread to the second floor of the two-story building.

Firefighters said by 9:40 p.m. there was smoke in the hallways but the bulk of the fire was knocked down. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. It is unclear if anyone was in the building when the fire started. There were no reports of injuries.
