Final Day of 'Jamzilla' Slows Holiday Travelers On 405 Freeway

Motorists heeded warnings to avoid the area and traffic ran smoothly over the weekend.
"I'm not going to drive today or tomorrow, at least not in that area," driver Eddie Yasunaga said.
Metro officials say construction workers are ahead of schedule. They've been given 80 hours to complete the repaving project.
"We finished the paving work that we needed to do by the Getty area by early Sunday morning so that operation was done," Metro official Dave Sotero said. "So now we're focusing our attentions on the most complex part of this project by the 101 connectors where we will be paving parts of the 405 by Sepulveda Boulevard."
Extra California Highway Patrol officers frequented the Sepulveda Pass, looking for drivers who weren't obeying the construction zone speed limit of 55 mph.
"There are some officers located at every on- and off-ramp in case Metro needs some emergency closures. We also those roving officers that are working specifically on enforcement on the 10 and the 101 freeways," CHP Officer Rick Quintero said.
Partial lane closures will continue throughout Monday with the final full closure scheduled to take place from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Jamzilla is part of a $1.1 billion freeway-widening project. For more information, visit Metro's website.
