Female Suspect Sought In 2 Carjackings In Irvine

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — A female suspect was being sought in two separate carjackings in Irvine, police said Tuesday.

A Volvo S80 was reportedly carjacked from a man in a parking lot around 6 p.m. in the 17000 block of Von Karman
Avenue, Irvine Police Department Public Information Officer Farrah Emami said.

About 15 minutes after it was reported stolen, authorities recovered the Volvo in Costa Mesa with minor damage, according to Emami.

The suspect is believed to have earlier unsuccessfully attempted to take a vehicle from a female occupant at Fairview Road at the 73 Freeway, police said. A knife was used in both attempts, according to Emami.

A woman fitting the suspect's description of 5'2" tall, 130 pounds, wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt and jeans -- was detained but later released, according to police.
