Pedestrian hit and killed on 101 Freeway in Hollywood area

A pedestrian was hit and killed on the 101 Freeway Friday morning, causing all southbound lanes to be closed at the scene. 

The crash happened around 5:55 a.m. near Vermont Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. All southbound drivers were diverted off the highway at the North Vermont Avenue exit causing major backups.

Authorities said the man hit was pronounced dead at the scene. He was said to be in his 20s.

No other information was given about the incident.

The southbound side of the highway was backed up for miles while crews investigated the scene for multiple hours.

All southbound lanes on the 101 reopened around 11 a.m.
