Victim's Family Speaks Out Against Rap Mogul 'Suge' Knight In Fatal Hit-And-Run Accident

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Family members of a man who died after being run over by a pickup that authorities say was driven by rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight spoke out Friday.

According to the West Hollywood Sheriff's Department, an argument broke out around 2:30 p.m. Thursday during a music video shoot related to a movie about the rap group NWA called "Straight Outta Compton" the 1200 block of West Rosecrans Avenue.

A preliminary investigation revealed Knight drove his pickup backward and then forward, proceeding to run over two men.

Police went on to explain the two men, identified as Terry Carter and actor Cle Sloan, were taken to St. Francis Hospital, where Carter was pronounced dead.

The condition of Sloan remains unknown at this time.

KCAL9's Jeff Nguyen spoke with Carter's daughter, Crystal Carter, who explained her father helped raise foster children who graduated from college.

"Me and my dad had a special bond that cannot be replaced," Carter said. "He was a great, caring, loving and loyal man. I would like justice for my dad."

Knight turned himself into the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station around 1 a.m. for questioning.

Authorities reported he was arrested around 3 a.m. and was booked five hours later on murder charges.

Knight's attorney, James Edward Blatt, explained to Nguyen that Knight and Carter are longtime friends.

Carter's family clarified, however, that Terry was in no way close friends with Knight and was only dealing with him on business terms.

"We don't have any comments about Suge Knight," added Carter. "It's about our family and what we're going through."

Knight is being held on more than $2 million at the Men's Central Jail, authorities said.
