FAA: Flight Ban Extended For All US Flights To Tel Aviv
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Wednesday extended an existing flight ban for up to an additional 24 hours prohibiting all U.S. airlines from flying to Israel.
The FAA issued a second notice to airmen (NOTAM) shortly after 9 a.m. informing airlines that Tuesday's NOTAM was still in effect. The ban was put in place after a rocket landed approximately one mile from the Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv.
"The agency is working closely with the Government of Israel to review the significant new information they have provided and determine whether potential risks to U.S. civil aviation are mitigated so the agency can resolve concerns as quickly as possible," the FAA said in a statement.
The existing NOTAM only applies to U.S. operators, as the FAA has no authority over foreign airlines operating to or from U.S. airports. One flight from Israel's El Al Airlines arrived from Tel Aviv at the Los Angeles International Airport at 6:30 a.m.
