FAA: United Airlines Flights No Longer Grounded; Automation Problem Fixed

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Federal Aviation Administration officials Wednesday temporarily grounded all United Airlines flights due to an automation problem.

According to media relations for United Airlines, officials worked to fix a network connectivity issue in order to restore regular flight operations.

Shortly after 6 a.m., huge crowds of passengers gathered outside the United terminal at Los Angeles International Airport as they awaited updates on flight information.

About an hour later, airport police posted on Twitter that the airline's computer system was slowly restoring and boarding was expected to begin shortly.

"We had about 10 flights that were delayed," said Mary Grady, LAX spokesperson.

Delays are expected throughout the day.

Passengers are encouraged to print boarding passes at home, and to avoid checking baggage if possible to prevent delays while traveling.

Airport officials advised passengers to contact United directly for flight status updates.

United has provided an online waiver for customers who are able to change flight plans. To access the waiver, click here.
