El Monte woman charged with the brutal murder of her mother

The Los Angeles County District Attorney El Monte woman has been charged with the brutal murder of her mother.

Kimberly Monique Gonzalez has been charged with one count of murder and one count of assault with a deadly weapon and faces a maximum of life in prison. She's being held on a $2 million bail.

""My heart goes out to the family and loved ones who have been shattered by this unimaginable tragedy. The pain and grief they must be experiencing is unimaginable." District Attorney George Gascón said.

On Oct. 22, El Monte officers responded to Gonzalez's home in the 11000 block of Ranchito Street and found Gonzalez outside, covered in blood. Inside the home, officers found her mother suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Gonzalez's mother was pronounced dead at their home. Investigators believe that Gonzalez "personally used a knife" to kill her mother.

"This was an extraordinarily violent act which has had a profound impact on our community," District Attorney Gascón said. "We are fully committed to seeking justice on behalf of the victim and our dedicated team will work tirelessly to bring clarity and closure to this heartbreaking case."

Gonzalez's arraignment is scheduled for tomorrow at the Pomona Courthouse.
