Dozens Of Anti-War Protesters Rally In Hollywood
HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Dozens of anti-war protesters marched through Hollywood Saturday.
the protest prompted police to shut parts of Hollywood and Sunset Boulevard at various times.
Greg Mills, reporting for CBS2, said the LAPD reported not major problems or arrests during the three-hour demonstration.
Protesters -- about a couple of hundred -- made a point of staking out Hollywood's home of the Oscars -- the Dolby Theatre.
Tourist Deb Shenk (from Milwaukee) found the protest a little disturbing.
"I'm a little disappointed," she said, "but this is reality. It disappoints me that I have my 8-year-old daughter here and I kept her inside over there cause I really don't want her to see this."
Demonstrators were protesting US involvement in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and even Venezuela.
"For the U.S. to interfere anywhere in the world, whether it's the Middle East or Eastern Europe, sub-Sahara Africa, Far East Asia, Latin America, is not in the best interests of the United States," said Samer Mansour, an Arab-American who grew up in Los Angeles.
Ryan Endicott, a former Marine Corporal, said he thinks the protest makes him a patriot. He served in Iraq a decade ago and is now an outspoken opponent of our being there.
"I think it's really important to allow countries to defend themselves and to find their own destiny in life," Endicott said.
The final stop for protesters was the Marine Recruitment office. Mills said, being it was Saturday, the office was closed.
