Downey High Teacher Arrested In 'Inappropriate Relationship' With Student

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A Downey High School teacher and head coach of the girls soccer team faced charges Tuesday of carrying on an inappropriate relationship with a student, police said.

Detectives with the Downey Police Department launched an investigation after school officials notified police Oct. 9, authorities said.

After a preliminary investigation, detectives arrested teacher Brandon Hitchcock, 30, on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, police said.

The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, which filed "multiple criminal charges," police said.

Hitchcock, a social studies teacher, was named head coach of the soccer team in April after serving as an assistant for several years.
