Domestic Violence Suspect Arrested After Brief Police Pursuit

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A man suspected of domestic violence was arrested Thursday after leading police on a brief car chase that ended in a crash in the Echo Park area.

The man, in his 30s, was taken into custody near the site of the crash, which happened about 8:45 a.m. near Glendale Boulevard, Los Angeles police Sgt. Michael Morisseau said.

The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment of apparent minor injuries, and will be booked on suspicion on several felonies, including domestic violence and stalking, Morisseau said. His name was not immediately released.

Police had responded to the 2500 block of Gates Street in the Lincoln Heights area about 8:35 a.m. on a report of domestic violence, Morisseau said. The officers saw the suspect leaving in a black Prius and began following the car on surface streets.

A short time later, the Prius got onto the northbound 101 Freeway, where it collided with a Jeep, which overturned, Morisseau said, and the suspect got out, ran from the freeway into a nearby neighborhood and was quickly taken into custody.

The woman driving the Jeep was taken to a hospital for treatment of apparent minor injuries. Two freeway lanes briefly blocked while authorities investigated the scene.
