Dodgers Relief Pitcher Tweets That Brother Was Shot 5 Times

WEST HILLS (CBSLA.com) — The brother of a Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher has been shot and seriously wounded in West Hills, according to multiple published reports.

Josh Ravin said via Twitter on Sunday that his brother Joel Ravin was shot five times, but indicated that he did not have additional details about the shooting.

LAPD spokesperson Mike Lopez told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO the shooting happened at 1:45 a.m. Sunday near Vanowen Street and Fallbrook Avenue.

"The suspect from what I understand is a male, white. No further description on the suspect," the officer said. Law enforcement officials, though, could not immediately confirm the identity of the victim to CBS Los Angeles.

His mother, Lana Ravin, said Joel had a bullet lodged in his kidney and one in his neck, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

"Our victim is currently at a local hospital in stable condition," the officer said. "Our detectives are working on the case right now to try to find out the motive and to find out who is responsible for the shooting."

Ravin -- who made a brief debut with the Dodgers this season -- later tweeted: "We know who the shooter is. So does the LAPD. Justice is on the way!"

What led up to the shooting was not immediately known.
