Dodgers' Julio Urias Named Top Left-Handed Pitching Prospect For '16

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Before MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects List of 2016 is released at the end of January, the website released it's rankings for the top prospects at each position on Wednesday.

Los Angeles Dodgers pitching prospect Julio Urias was named the best left-handed pitching prospect in the minor leagues by MLBPipeline.com.

Urias is still 19 years old, and he is already making headlines as a future pitching phenom.

The youngster has a fastball that reaches 97 mph, and above average off-speed stuff.

He has command of over four pitches including his fastball, but has yet to surpass the 90 inning mark in a season.

Urias spent the bulk of last season with the Dodgers' Double-A affiliate, where, in 13 starts, he sported a 3-4 record, 2.77 ERA and 74 strikeouts in just 68 1/3 innings pitched.

Urias ranked first on the same list last season, ahead of Mets P Steven Matz, Angels P Andrew Heaney, Tigers P Daniel Norris, and White Sox P Carlos Rodon.

While his future is certainly bright, it is unclear whether or not he will be ready to pitch for the Dodgers in 2016.

Remember, however, Urias does not turn 20 until August.

MLBPipeline.com will release it's Top 100 Prospects of 2016 list on January 29th.
