Dodgers Ink Former Braves Starter Brandon Beachy To 1-Year Pact
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Dodgers have signed former Atlanta Braves starter Brandon Beachy to a one-year contract.
Beachy, who has undergone Tommy John surgery twice, is a right-hander who posted a 14-11 mark with a 3.23 ERA over 46 starts with the Braves between 2010 and 2013. The 28-year-old has limited opposing hitters to a .220 average over 267.2 innings in the majors. He has struck out 275 batters while walking 86.
According to a news release from the Dodgers, Beachy was leading the majors with a 2.00 ERA through 13 starts in 2012 when he underwent his first surgery on June 21 of that year. He started just five games for the Braves in 2013, and missed the 2014 season after his second surgery on March 21.
Beachy's contract includes a club option for 2016.
The Dodgers made room for Beachy on the 40-man roster by placing right-handed pitcher Chris Withrow on the 60-day disabled list.
