Dodgers Close To Acquiring 5 Players In 3-Team Deal With Marlins, Braves
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles Dodgers were close to acquiring five players in a trade Wednesday evening that is said to involve three teams.
The trade, which was expected by many to be completed Thursday, would bring starter Mat Latos and first baseman/outfielder Michael Morse from the Miami Marlins, and starter Alex Wood to LA along with relievers Jim Johnson and Luis Avilan from the Atlanta Braves.
In exchange, the Dodgers would send new Cuban prospect Hector Olivera to Atlanta as the centerpiece of the deal, possibly along with Paco Rodriguez and Zach Bird. Pitching prospects Jeff Brigham, Victor Araujo and Kevin Guzman would head to Miami.
It was speculated that the Dodgers may package Wood, Morse and prospects as a means of acquiring highly sought Detroit Tigers pitcher David Price.
Price, a 2015 All-Star, is 9-4 with a 2.53 ERA through 21 starts this season, with a 138-to-29 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
The MLB trade deadline is Friday at 1 p.m.
