Dodger Stadium Opens First Kosher Concession Stand
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — For the first time at Dodger Stadium, a concession stand is offering kosher food.
For years, scores of Dodger fans who eat kosher have been unable to eat ball park food. On Tuesday, those fans were the recipients of good news.
"We could never buy hot dogs, and part of what it means to go to a baseball game is peanuts and cracker jacks and hot dogs," fan Michael Berenbaum said.
Courtesy of Jeff's Gourmet Sausage Factory, a one-hundred percent kosher food stand has been set up in Dodger Stadium, located directly next to Tommy Lasorda's Restaurant.
"Anything that is needed to run this stand will all be supervised and approved by the rabbi," Jeff's Gourmet Sausage Factory's Jeff Rohatiner said.
Most Major-League ball parks across the country offer kosher food, and the Dodgers decided it was time Los Angeles did as well.
"We have a lot of fans asking for it, and when fans ask for it, we try to serve our fan base the best we can," Dodgers Executive Vice President Lon Rosen said.
With the second-largest Jewish population in the country, fans say it's about time.
"This is a great day for baseball," Berenbaum said.
While the stand is located in the right field plaza, anyone can come down to get a kosher dog. The stand will be open for every home game, except for any that fall on the Sabbath.
