Discovery Cube Los Angeles To Open Next Month

SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — The cube-shaped museum that's a hit with so many Orange County children is making a home for itself in Los Angeles County.

Discovery Cube Los Angeles is set to open next month in Sylmar in the Hansen Dam Recreation Area, a site that was originally supposed to be a children's museum before funding dried up.

"I think the controversy to us has been time, because you might know the building sat dormant for seven years," said Kellee Preston, Discovery Cube Los Angeles' vice president of operations. "So there's a lot of modifications to make. But there was also 71,000 square feet to build and bring to life."

Many of the exhibits at the new Discovery Cube Los Angeles will focus on four areas: healthy living, environmental stewardship, early learners and STEM – science, technology, engineering and math, Preston said.

Discovery Cube Los Angeles is scheduled to open to the public Nov. 19.
