Diamondbacks Polish Off Angels 5-2 In Split-Squad Play

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Didi Gregorious doubled in two runs and Paul Goldschmidt added an RBI double in the Arizona Diamondbacks split-squad's 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday.

Los Angeles starter Garrett Richards, 7-8 with a 4.42 ERA with the Angels in 2013, allowed five runs and eight hits in four innings in his second spring start. Richards allowed singles to Alfredo Marte and Tony Campana before Gregorious doubled off the right-field wall. Goldschmidt then doubled to the wall in left-center field.

"I put myself in a couple of bad counts," said Richards, expected to be the Angels' No. 3 starter coming out of camp. "I left the ball up in the zone. I've got to get better at not letting a bad inning snowball."

Richards threw three shutout innings at Arizona in his first spring start.

Arizona top pitching prospect Archie Bradley threw 3 1/3 shutout innings and allowed two hits, leaving him unscored upon this spring after two starts.

"He was relaxed and had good stuff," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said. "He's progressing and he looks great. We've got to keep him healthy and progressing."

Bradley went 12-5 with a 1.97 ERA in 21 starts with Double-A Mobile and 2-1 with a 1.26 ERA in five starts with Single-A Visalia. He was selected the Diamondbacks' 2013 minor league pitcher of the year and the South League's most outstanding pitcher. Bradley struck out six in three scoreless innings in his first spring start against Colorado.

The Angels' Albert Pujols singled in a run in a two-run fifth off Matt Stites.
