Detroit Auto Show Closes Sunday; Attendance Tops Previous Year
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - New cars, trend-setting concept cars and a stop from President Barack Obama created a buzz at this year's auto show - helping nudge attendance numbers up from last year.
Sunday's finish of 104,263 attendees brought the total ticketed attendance to 815,575 edging out last year's total of 808,775.
Rod Nelson of Birmingham among the thousands who have milled past the displays and exhibits ... though he doesn't really consider himself to be a "car guy."
"But I have a master's degree in science and I like the technology aspect, I have trouble finding answers -- because the technician guys all stump the technician.
Nelson is especially interested in the autonomous technology he expects will be more common in vehicles in the next five years.
After a quick tour of the North American International Auto Show Wednesday, the president stopped to speak to auto workers at the UAW GM Center for Human Resources — taking credit for a resurgence in the industry.
The North American International Auto Show ended Sunday.
