Cudahy shooting leaves one teenager dead, another critically wounded

Detectives investigate Cudahy shooting death of a teenager, with another teen in critical condition

Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting in Cudahy that left a 17-year-old dead and another teenager injured.

The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. Tuesday on Clara Street near Atlantic Avenue. According to deputies, family members showed up after they tracked the 17-year-old's phone to the location.

"From what I can tell looking at the area, there is a lot of graffiti, so I hope these two boys weren't involved in some type of lifestyle like that," said LA County Sheriff's Department Lt. Steve DeJong.

Investigators say sheriff's deputies were already responding to an unrelated call nearby when they heard the gunfire. Deputies found the 17-year-old and tried to resuscitate him. Deputies also found a 15-year-old outside a nearby apartment building. Investigators say he is in critical condition.

It's unclear if the two teenagers knew each other, if they shot each other, or if there is another suspect, investigators said.
