Sheriff's Deputy Shot Himself While Serving Warrant In South El Monte

SOUTH EL MONTE (CBSLA) — A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy accidentally shot himself with his own gun as he helped serve a search warrant in South El Monte.

The search warrant was served 11200 block of Broadmead Street just before 5:30 a.m.

The deputy was conscious, talking and standing before he was loaded into an ambulance, which was escorted by several sheriff's cruisers.

"He's fine," Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Rodney Moore said.

It's not clear if the deputy was holding the gun or if it was still in his holster.

Two women and a man were taken into custody on narcotics charges.

Neighbors said the home where the search warrant was served was notorious, called "a drug house" by one neighbor and a "gang house" by another.

"There's always something going on at this house," said one neighbor who asked to not be identified.
